چکیده

Adaptive signaling schemes, which employ the current channel fading values to optimize the transmitted signal, have recently been presented for time-varying Rayleigh fading channels. These schemes have employed set-partitioned trellis-coded modulation (TCM) and have adapted the number of uncoded bits on a given symbol based on the corresponding channel estimate. However, the characterization of the channel variation indicates that the proposed adaptive TCM schemes will not perform well on channels with high mobility, as uncoded bits are unreliable on such channels. Thus, in this paper, adaptive bit-interleaved coded modulation is introduced. As will be shown, adaptive bit-interleaved coded modulationschemes can be used to remove the need for parallel branches in the trellis-even when the signal sets are being adapted. This observation is used to design adaptive signaling schemes for highly mobile systems that demonstrate a signiicant bandwidth eeciency gain over previously proposed adaptive TCM schemes and conventional (nonadaptive) schemes.

Bit and co-ordinate interleaved coded modulation

The diversity order is crucial for the performance of communication systems over Fading Channels. It has been shown by Zehavi that the diversity and hence performance of coded modulation over fading channels can be improved by bitwise interleaving at the encoder output, and by using an appropriate soft decision metric as an input t o the Viterbi decoder. A related approach is coordinate interle...

Bandwidth-efficient, low-latency adaptive coded modulation schemes for time-varying channels

Abstract—In wireless systems supporting slowly moving users, adaptive trellis-coded modulation (TCM) schemes have demonstrated large bandwidth efficiency gains over their nonadaptive counterparts. In systems with highly mobile users, the recently proposed adaptive bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) achieves a moderate bandwidth efficiency gain over previously proposed adaptive schemes and ...

Performance analysis of Adaptive Bit-interleaved Coded Modulation in OFDM using Zero Padding Scheme

OFDM forms the basis for all the 4G wireless technologies which ensures multi carrier modulation. Fading nature of a wireless channel due to constructive/destructive interference degrades the performance of the system. The spectral efficiency and performance gain can be improved by adapting data rate/modulation schemes. We introduce Adaptive Bit-interleaved coded modulation (ABICM) in OFDM usin...

Channel estimation in bit-interleaved coded modulation with iterative decoding

This study improves the fading channel estimation in bit-interleaved coded modulation systems with iterative decoding (BICM-ID) and signal space diversity (SSD) by embedding a training sequence. Existing training schemes work well at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) or slowly time-varying channels whereas the applications of BICM-ID are beneficial at low SNR and fast time-varying fading channel...
